An old private house built more than 100 years ago, where a koji (rice malt) shop was operated during the Edo and Meiji periods. From the storehouse on the second floor, we found a lot of books such as daifukucho, share certificates, and textbooks from the time when we were a koji maker, as well as lacquered tableware with the koji maker’s family crest. The history of this town is alive here and there, so you can feel the edge of memory here.

The house had been vacant for many years, but the town family rented it and renovated it. From April 2021, it will be reborn as the “Former Kojiya” and open to the town with the concept of “a place where the people of the town and those who visit the town can connect like family.”

Various activities are being carried out, such as holding events such as cafes and breakfast parties on the earthen floor, and turning it into a place to stay.

This house has a lot of folk toys from all over Japan and around the world.
The store owner, who loves local toys, has joined the collection that the old landlord collected while traveling and cherished.
The show window through the glass door that can be seen from the outside, the local toy shelf (handmade by the owner!) that can be seen in front of you when you enter the dirt floor, and other places are regularly replaced and decorated.
It is also the customary style of Kojiya to accompany one at a cafe or breakfast table.
Folk toys are an indispensable feature and attraction of this place.
